7:00 – Depart Starkville

 

9:30 – 10:00 Arrive at Delta Research and Extension Center

 

10:00-12:30 Field Tour

  • Emile Gardiner, USDA Forest Service                                                                               History of SRWC breeding programs in Stoneville, MS

  • Brian Stanton and Rick Stonex, Poplar Innovations                                                     New poplar trials exploring drought tolerance, regional adaptability, and genetic selection.

 

12:30 – 14:00 Lunch/Break

 

14:00 – 15:30 Greenville Cypress Preserve Trust

  • Stroll along the easy walking trails and boardwalks that wind through meadows, bottomland hardwood forest, and cypress brakes, with interpretive signs to help you appreciate the plants, wildlife, and history of this special place.

 

15:30 – 16:30 Warfield Point Park

  • Nestled right on the banks of the legendary Mississippi River, this scenic county park sits between the river and the levee, with an elevated observation tower for panoramic views.

 

19:00 Return to Starkville
